History of Fruit and Floral Oils
Fruit and floral oils have a rich history rooted in humanity’s long appreciation for natural aromas. Ancient civilizations, including those in Egypt, Persia, India, China, Greece, and Rome, prized fragrant flowers and fruits for personal adornment, ceremonial use, and perfumery. Roses, jasmine, lilies, violets, citrus fruits, and other botanicals were often infused into oils, balms, and ointments to capture their delightful scents. As distillation and extraction techniques improved, artisans were able to preserve the delicate aromas of flowers and fruit peels more effectively. During the Renaissance, European perfumers refined these methods, creating luxurious fragrances that featured floral notes such as rose, lavender, and jasmine alongside bright citrus aromas from orange, lemon, and bergamot. In the 19th and 20th centuries, advances in fragrance science expanded the variety of fruit and floral scents available. Perfumers began blending natural extracts with carefully crafted fragrance ingredients to recreate and enhance aromas that were difficult to obtain directly from nature. Today, fruit and floral oils remain among the most popular fragrance categories in the world. From sweet rose and jasmine to vibrant mango, peach, citrus, and berry-inspired aromas, these oils are used in perfumery, home fragrance, personal care products, and aromatherapy to bring a touch of nature’s beauty into everyday life.
